Our good friend and illustrator Laura Carlin has teamed up with graphic designer Ben Branagan to create a series of stacking earthenware bowls, ready to go into production at a traditional potworks in Stoke-on-Trent, the heartland of the pottery industry in England.
The design of each ceramic bowl in this set of three has been carefully considered to suggest a particular use or function but also to work harmoniously with its brothers. The bowl shapes, rim and handle have been crafted to interlock with satisfying ease and economy of space. The design is a balance of Ben and Laura’s sensibilities, where graphic precision and a handmade aesthetic meet. The finished set will be glazed in a different texture and colour for each bowl.
The bowls are sold exclusively on Up Side Up, a website that invites designers whose work and ideas they love to develop a product which will only get brought to life if there is enough demand from buyers. A limited edition of the product goes on sale on the website, where for one month everyone has the chance to pre-order the product as soon as the edition sells out the money goes straight into making the project come to life and the object gets made.
