This year NoChintz were asked to design the Sleep Hotel Bar for The Sleep event 2012, at the Business Design Centre in Islington.
The design originated from the brief to create a bar fit for “a mid-sized European coastal city with a mountainous backdrop”, where the surrounding structure of the bar refereed to the geometry of the mountains in a contemporary way.
The structure was constructed from untreated timber to highlight the use of natural materials and create a simple backdrop for the range of furniture, product and lighting which was provided by Protocol and Relay Design Agency.
The bar was populated with contemporary furniture and technology from European manufacturers DiamondAV, GROHE and Pedrali. We clad the bar in beautiful tiles provided by Porcelanosa, which also reflect the geometric shapes of the structure and the copper branch lighting by Orjso continued the Nordic indoor-outdoor feel of the bar area.
Kvadrat provided a fabric cloud installation and a new range of fabrics that pick up the teal, grey and white colourways we chose to compliment the structure. The fabric installation allowed us to project images, provided by Hoxton Art Gallery, onto the walls.
The resulting space created an open, inviting and social space for people to gather, relax and take in the surrounding stands.
