In August 2011 NoChintz won a contract to provide design direction and full FF&E provision for luxury self-catering experts, Natural Retreats’, headline project in John O’Groats. This included designing the interiors for 23 stand-alone three bedroom residences, the refurbished and extended John O’Groats hotel, an Outfitters activity centre and retail space and the Storehouse co-operative restaurant and shop.
The Residences, Outfitters and Storehouse have all now been launched.
The Residences have been designed in the style of the award-winning luxury eco-lodges at their Yorkshire Dales site and have been underpinned by strong sustainable principles, with the use of locally sourced materials such as Caithness stone, Scottish Larch timber and sedum roofs. The £6.5 million scheme marks a prominent regeneration of the area partnered with Heritage Great Britain.
The concept for the interiors was to create a fully kitted out British manufactured offering, from the beds right through to the plates. For the last year we have conceptualised, designed, sourced, re-designed, sampled and commissioned for the project.
NoChintz has provided an interiors solution, where the items sourced are not just designed in Britain but actually manufactured here too and we have also sourced many items from Scotland – working with key British designers to create a unique offering. Stars such as Naughtone, Another Country, &Then Design, Anta, Original BTC, Pottinger and Cole and Davey lighting as well as a number of smaller brands producing specially commissioned and bespokely designed pieces make up the collection. British brand Dualitt is featured throughout the kitchen and Steellite, made in Stoke-on-trent, provides the full crockery collection. Anorak punctuates the offering with some wonderful coasters, place mats and children’s items.
Lucy Goddard, NoChintz director, said: “It was a real pleasure to work so closely with Natural Retreats on such an exciting development. This was a wonderful opportunity for NoChintz to add real value to the project, and to enhance guests experience through beautiful design to complement the amazing architecture and stunning surroundings at John O’Groats.”
Adam Gough, Head of Technical Services – Europe, said: “We chose NoChintz to work with us as we fundamentally believed that their enthusiasm for good design and creativity would add tremendous value to what we planned to achieve in John O’Groats and they have delivered. We look forward to working with them on the hotel in the Spring and on our future developments”
