The summer is officially behind us (especially here in rainy Manchester) but this project by Netherlands based designer Deiederik Schneemann brings a little bit of summer back.
‘A Flip Flop Story‘ is a project which chronicles the journey of abandoned flip-flops and creates amazing design out of them.
After being used and abandoned on the beach, they eventually find their way to the garbage or sewage and out into the ocean, making their journey to the shores of eastern africa. There they are found, collected, and eventually reclaimed and recycled into a collection of design objects translating and retelling the story of the shoes.
Flower pots, lamps and toys are among the recreations being made from the foam footwear, which is on display at Milan Design week 2011.
